TextEN | The Beechcraft AT-11 was a variant of the Beechcraft model 18, known as twin beech. A total of 128 AT 11 came from 1948 to the Turkish air force under the US military assistance program. They were delivered on 14 May 1948 by aircraft carrier. The AT-11 replaced the Airspeed Oxford and remained in service until 1983. They were used mainly as an advanced trainer, bomber-trainer and as liaison aircraft. Main user was the Eskisehir bomber training and shooting school, but after retirement of the A-26 Invader the most AT-11 were retired. The remaining aircraft served primarily as a target tug and liaison aircraft. The base type Beech 18 was built from 1937 to 1970. Initially declassifiedby the Lockheed 12 she finally was the longest produced piston engine aircraft. Over 9000 machines were produced. Countless versions and modifications - the AT-7 Navigator, the naval version of SNB-1 Kansan, the AT-11 and SNB-2 as well as the military transport C-45 are the most famous. The experimental aircraft XA-38 Grizzly had installed a cannon in the bow and a gun turret, but never went into series production. Beside the military use, there were many civil operators for agricultural spraying operations, the use of fish, distributing dry ice for the production of rain, fire fighting in sets, the dropping of airmail, ambulance services, film productions, parachute jumps, smuggling goods, test flight, or hauling of banners, and also as a passenger aircraft.(37)(38)(39) | |
