TextEN  The German merchant cruiser HSK-1 Orion used an E8N2 Dave with the serial L5196 as replacement for it's former Arado Ar 196. Vize-Admiral Wenecker bought this machine in Japan, it was transferred with the HK Munsterland to the Marian Islands and passed on February 1st, 1941 near Maug-Island to Orion. Pilot was Leutnant Klaus von Winterfeldt. It was painted with British insignias. On May 26th, 1941 it had an accident while starting near Madagaskar and sunk.
Formally the Dave was assigned to the Bordfliegergruppe 5./196. Some literature names it as a Nakajima 90-11. This is based on a fault of the German Navy. The internal name at Nakajima was Type 95.
